Liah and Liam are a couple of cutie pies. They are 19 months old and have overcome the odds of prematurity and are each other’s best friends. Their mother tells us more about their rough start and loving bond. And find out what summer fun toy they will be getting from our friends at Step 2.
What Makes Your Twins Rock?!
Born two months prematurely, Liam and Liah had a bit of a struggle when they first started out. Liah, was born 59 seconds before her brother and was the reason they were born early but as soon as she was out she was doing what she does best…moving and shaking! Liam spent a little more time in NICU due to apnea but is now the epitome of health! Our pediatrician tells me constantly that he can’t believe how well they are doing to be born so early. More
The neatest thing about my twins is their differences. Kobi is my Southern Belle and is known as Maru—our beloved. Kobi’s smile can light up the day and her giggle can warm your soul. Kobi loves and gives love so freely. She enjoys giving kisses and chasing her twin to give her lovins’. Atia is our firecracker. She is a mover and a shaker. Alias—Le Gremlin, Atia is my Miss Independent, spunky, little lady. She’s particular in her mannerisms, has a deep passion for exploration, and loves redefining ALL boundaries. Miracles to Mommy, my twins are my world. More

Jack, Jameson and Jonah
What makes you twins rock?!
I cannot begin to think of all the reasons that these little boys are fabulous. They are
both smart, funny, and FULL of energy. They are the proud big brothers to a new baby boy, who they love to show off! They love to tell stories and make new friends. Jack is our quiet thinker, who plays quietly on his own but loves to act silly and joke around. Jameson is our fiery daredevil, who is the best snuggler and tells everyone he loves them. The boys really surprise me everyday with how strong they are for being only three years old! One of our twins was recently diagnosed with More
Jamie nominated her twins Trevor and Jonah. They are 2 years old and cute as a button. Here is what Jamie had to say about why her twinnies rock!
Why do your twins rock?
I had a nightmare pregnancy. I will make a long story as short as possible. I was 7 weeks when I found out I was having twins and was told I was loosing them due to the heavy bleeding and there was nothing I or them could do. At 15 weeks I had a kidney stone and wanted to die was on bed rest for a week. At 19 weeks I was told both boys were missing brain parts either to genetics or an infection and went thru an amnio on both boys and a fetal MRI which by the way lasted 9 hours because the boys kept moving. I was then told I should end my pregnancy due to the mental and physical disabilities my boys would have. At 29 weeks I was preclamptic almost stroked with a blood pressure of 216 and had two perfect boys via c-section whom spent 6 weeks in the NICU and are now 33 months and healthy, perfect and naughty little boys. Denise nominated her twin girls Kayla & Lily. They are 3.5 years old. Find out why we think they rock!
What Makes Your Twins Rock?!
As babies I never really felt that my girls had that “twin bond.” We have a 6 year old daughter as well and they were more interested in her than each other. Over the last three years I have watched their bond strengthen and grow til they truly need each other. While each is completely independent – if one isn’t there you can feel the emptiness from the other. Bedtime now consists of them needing to fall asleep together and when we move them into separate beds as we go to bed you can often hear in the middle of the night one of them running back to the others bed. These girls are amazing! They have crazy fun personalities yet are also so loving with their hugs and kisses. I am so blessed to have them as my own!
What is a favorite twinnie moment?
The girls had their holiday concert at school – Kayla had been sick that week so she was watching with me as Lily’s class got up to sing their song. The size of the crowd watching got to Lily and she just stood there frozen – not singing (luckily not crying) – Kayla then jumped from my lap, ran up to Lily and hugged her and said “It’s OK Lil – you can sing.” How sweet is that!?
What is the funniest thing they have said?
I overheard Kayla on the monitor saying “Lily…Lily Joan wake up!” Lily replies “Kayla I sleepin’.” It’s quite for a minute then Kayla says “I tell mommy you wake Kayla up – you say Kayla Finn wake up!” Lily then starts yelling at her until Kayla says “Hey Lily – you not sleepin’ any more!”
What do they want to be when they grow up?
Kayla wants to be Cinderella and live in a castle. Lily wants to work at Disney World and live in a rainbow house with rooms for all of us – but she will still share with Kayla – and their husbands!
We’re sending the girls a Create & Play Kitchen from Step2 for hours of pretend fun with this interactive kitchen. The stove top lights up and makes sounds when you use the pots on them and who wouldn’t love the dry erase board on the refrigerator door to doodle on! (This kitchen also come in earthy gender neutral colors in Canada.) The New Traditions Kitchen also comes in neutral colors and is at the same price point. The Create and Play Kitchen is good for ages 2 and up.

We have some special girls this month to be honored as our Twinnies of the month.
Taylor and Rylie
These twin girls are 2 1/2 years old. In January, Taylor had surgery to remove a large cancerous tumor that took over her kidney (Wilms tumor), which was also taken out as well. It was the 2nd biggest one that her surgeon had seen, 17 x 13 centimeters (about 4 x 5 1/2 inches). She has completed radiation and just finished her chemotherapy treatments at the end of July. She is doing very well. It has been a struggle for the whole family, but the 2 girls have become best buddies. Rylie helps by being “nurse”, helping with Taylor’s feeding tube by syringing her medicine into it, and gives lots of hugs. Rylie would rub Taylor’s back when she was sick. They are both looking forward for Taylor’s hair to come back, Rylie loves playing “hair dresser.”
Here are a few things to help us get to know the girls better: More
They sing, play dress up, sword fight, explore nature and play with bugs. These girls do it all!
There moms describes them and “self-rescuing princess”
We fell in love with them and so will you!
–
We asked their mom. What is your favorite part about being a mother of twins?
Seeing the love between them. Even when my husband and I “divide & conquer” the list of errands and each take a girl, they’ll say things like “we should get one for Caleigh too” or “I think Alessa would love this”. They’re both fiercely independent and are “self rescuing princesses”, happy with a sword or light saber in their hand as they dress in ball gowns. They love stories where the female character saves the day or rescues the prince – the damsel in distress/ princess waiting for her prince to sweep her off her feet doesn’t cut it with them. They’re confused why the princess isn’t off having adventures too! It’s been heart-breakingly wondrous to watch them become their own little people. They’re getting to the point where they’re becoming self-sufficient – I can set a checklist in front of them for items to put in a stack to pack for a trip and they can do it, they’ll play together in the backyard for hours, and they’ve finally learned that playing quietly together in their bedroom until 8 on weekends makes for much happier, fun parents 😉
What makes them unique?
Caleigh is outgoing & friendly and loves to be center stage. Alessa is more reserved and loves to view the world with a quiet, naturalist’s eye before documenting it in her field journal. Snuggle hugs vs fierce hugs, arts vs athletics, mercurial vs routine driven – my sweet girls are more different than day & night. But they fit together so perfectly… I wouldn’t change them in any way.
–
Their mom asked them a few questions for us so we could get to know them better. Here are their answers.
What do you like most about being twins?
Alessa: “I get to have a sister – to be with, to play with, to LIVE with.”
Caleigh: “I like being with my sister & never being alone.”
What your interests?
Alessa: “What I REALLY like to do is go swimming & look at nature.”
Caleigh: “Usually, I play in the backyard and catch bugs and other exciting stuff. We use our imaginations!”
What is your favorite toy?
Alessa: “I love my Etch a Sketch and my My Little Ponies.”
Caleigh: “My Little Ponies – especially the Rarity with the sparkly hair.”
(we live a very “pony-centric” life right now at our house)
What is your favorite song?
Alessa: “Hey Soul Sister” (by Train)
Caleigh: “Mean” (by Taylor Swift)
What is your favorite subject in school?
Alessa: “I’ll be in second grade next year. I love to do math, but I love reading a lot too.”
Caleigh: “My favorite thing in school was music – we learned all sorts of cool songs and dances, but what I really liked was throwing away my math workbook on the last day of school.
What is your favorite book?
Alessa: “The Night Before Christmas.”
Caleigh: “Go Dog Go.”
Here is a cute video of Alessa and Caleigh singing

Twiniversity and Step2 would like to introduce you to Natalie and Alexandra, our February twinnies of the month for 2012!
Nat and Alex are seven years old and live in New York City. This month these identical twins preformed a ice dancing routine to the song “Sisters” (lyrics by Irving Berlin) in the Skate Against Breast Cancer at Bryant Park. They learned that they can use the skills they are gaining as figure skaters to entertain people, and, more importantly, to help a worthy cause. And, they got to wear a little makeup, which was a huge plus for them.
We asked Rebecca, their mom, to interview them about a few of their favorite things. Here is what we found out:
