Every year at Twiniversity we use the month of December to highlight some of our amazing families. Some folks have the 12 Days of Christmas, but with twins, shouldn’t we have 24 days? So from Dec 1st through December 24th we will feature an amazing family and tell you a bit about them.
Every family selected will receive a small token gift from us as a little Thank You for letting us honor them. This year we are also very lucky to have partnered with Step2 and will be able to make some amazing recommendations for holiday gifts for your own multiples. If you would like your family featured, please check out the full details. Entries are still being accepted.
We asked their mom a few questions and here is what she had to say about her twinnies and the holidays:
How old are they? 4 1/2 months
What was your most memorable moment from the day your multiples were born? The day they were born, July 21, 2011. I went to the hospital at 37 weeks to be induced due to a rash that covered my big belly and wrapped around my torso. 6 hours after beginning the induction process Kate was born naturally in the OR at 12:01 am (My husband didn’t want me to start pushing until after midnight…. “They are twins. They have to be born on the same day!”) The doctors were able to manually turn Eli from the breech position that he was in. Exactly 7 hours later to the minute, in a regular birthing room during a “practice push” Eli was born. Both babies were born just at 7 lbs, happy and healthy. Every day I think about how blessed we are that Kate and Eli came into the world with such ease. And every day my husband and I say “WE HAVE TWINS!” We cannot believe it still.
How do you plan on celebrating the holidays with your family this year? We do a lot of traveling for the holidays. We head to my husbands parent’s house in New Jersey 2 days before Christmas and sleep over. That night we open presents with his immediate family. Christmas Eve we help with all of the last minute cooking, cleaning, and setting up for his extended family to come to his parents house for their traditional Christmas Eve dinner. After dinner and opening gifts we head back home to Pennsylvania so we can have Christmas morning with our children, Alexis who is 2 1/2 years old, Kate and Eli. After having our Christmas morning, we get ready, pack up, and head back to New Jersey where we go to my Grandmother’s house for dinner and presents with my side of the family. We enjoy the holidays greatly, but cannot wait for the day that we get a bigger house so that everyone can come to us.
Does your family have any holiday traditions you can share with us? In our house, not yet. We are just starting to teach our oldest about Christmas, both the religious meaning and the traditional Santa Clause story. Our Elf on the Shelf arrived this year on our porch along with a couple books about Christmas and an advent calendar. We are definitely looking forward to this Christmas and beginning some of our own traditions!
What was YOUR favorite gift you received for the holidays as a child? I honestly don’t remember a “favorite”. The toys that I do remember were the original Nintendo, a doll named Mimi, a bicycle… The more I think about it, the more I can’t believe that I don’t remember anything that would be my “favorite”.
Finish this sentence: The best part of being a parent of multiples (and a toddler) is you are never lonely. You always have someone to hold and love unconditionally.
